Decent Homes
Decent Homes
Sandwell Homes is managing one of the largest Decent Homes programmes in the country with a projected spend of £425m by the time it completes in 2012.
The success we have enjoyed so far is as a result of the strong partnerships that have been forged with the tenants and residents of Sandwell, as well as with our construction partners Connaught Partnerships Ltd, Lovell, Taylor Woodrow Construction, Thomas Vale, Wates Living Space, Rider Levett Bucknall, Think Local and Urban Design.
In this section you will find information relating to the Sandwell Decent Homes Delivery Programme, including details of what you can expect when we carry out improvements to your home and the community in which you live.
The Government has set targets for all homes to reach the Decent Homes Standard by 2010. In December 2005, we published our Decent Homes Delivery Programme, which shows how we intend to achieve the 2010 target for all of Sandwell's council owned stock - over 29, 000 properties.
From our original position of over 80% of stock requiring some work to achieve the standard, we are now happy to report that this has been reduced to below 50%, and our construction Partners are continuing to deliver improvements at a rate of over £300, 000 worth per day.
As part of our commitment to customer care and consultation we organise events within each neighbourhood to showcase the range of work being undertaken. We also consult with tenants about the work and how it may impact on the enjoyment of their home.
