What is an Equality Impact Assessment?

A way of ensuring that Equality is considered as a core part of planning a project or policy review
A guard against potential discrimination
To assess the effects of a proposed policy or project on different groups, enabling us to deliver an equitable service for everyone

Why do we carry out Equality Impact Assessments?

Legislative requirements
We are required to do EIA’s under the Race, Disability and Gender duties and the Equality Standard
EIA’s are part of Best Value and Comprehensive Performance Assessments

Which groups are we assessing impact on?

When do we carry out Equality Impact Assessments?

We carry out EIA for all new policies and any changes that we make to existing policies
Every year we prioritise our existing policies and carry out an EIA for those
