What is an Equality Impact Assessment?
- A way of ensuring that Equality is considered as a core part of planning a project or policy review
- A guard against potential discrimination
- To assess the effects of a proposed policy or project on different groups, enabling us to deliver an equitable service for everyone
Why do we carry out Equality Impact Assessments?
- Legislative requirements
- We are required to do EIA’s under the Race, Disability and Gender duties and the Equality Standard
- EIA’s are part of Best Value and Comprehensive Performance Assessments
Which groups are we assessing impact on?
- Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people
- Disabled people
- Women and Men
- Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGB and T) people
- People of different religion or beliefs
When do we carry out Equality Impact Assessments?
- We carry out EIA for all new policies and any changes that we make to existing policies
- Every year we prioritise our existing policies and carry out an EIA for those
