Getting To Know You

Getting To Know You logoSandwell Homes has successfully completed the Getting to Know You project. We now hold Equality information on 75% of our current tenants. This includes:
  • Preferred method of contact
  • Ethnicity
  • Languages spoken and read
  • Additional communication needs i.e. documents in Braille or large print
  • Disability and long-term medical conditions
  • Gender
  • An indication of tenants who wish to get involved and how
As well as all the above categories, for new tenants we also ask for information on sexuality and religion.

What have we learned so far?

The Getting To Know You Project is now coming to a close and we would like to thank everyone who has provided their details. Thanks to a very positive response we have been given information by 75% of Sandwell Homes’ tenants. This will be treated in the strictest confidence, and will be used to improve our services.

The data collected will enable us to identify gaps and improve services to our tenants by ensuring that we take into consideration their needs as individuals. For example, the information gathered has shown us that after English, Punjabi is the most popular language spoken. Other languages spoken in the Borough include Urdu, Bengali, Kurdish, Polish, Arabic, Farsi, French, Gujarati and British Sign Language. We can use this data to ensure that we have adequate interpretation facilities so that communication is not a problem.

Using the information provided by the tenants who responded to the survey we also learned that :-
  • Two thirds of Sandwell Homes’ joint and sole tenants are female
  • Just over 39% are aged over 65
  • We have tenants in all age groups ranging from 16 - 105 years
  • Just under 14% of tenants are from Black and Minority Ethnic Groups
  • Of those who wished to tell us, 50% confirmed that they have disabilities, impairments or long-term medical conditions.
We also learned that just under 33% of tenants would like to be involved in helping us to improve our services through attending events and meetings or responding to surveys and questionnaires.

We are now contacting the remaining 25% of tenants who have not yet provided us with the information. If you have not yet completed and returned a Getting to Know You form, please take two minutes to complete it online or contact the Equality Team on 0121-569 6383/6384 for assistance. The Getting to Know You form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7 or above installed on your computer. You can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat free of charge from the Adobe website.
