Meet the Eco Champions
This section will introduce you to our Eco Champions. They are a group of tenants who have volunteered to get involved and encourage the wider tenant/resident population to become more environmentally friendly through small behavioural and lifestyle changes. The project was launched in December 2008, through our resident's newsletter, where we gave tenants the opportunity to volunteer to become an Eco Champion. As a group, the Eco Champions hold regular meetings that cover a range of environmental themes. Guest speakers attend to share their expertise and Officers provide feedback on organisational progress. We involve the Eco Champions in various activities, which to date have included site visits, undertaking energy audits and energy performance assessments, distribution of energy monitors, environmental awareness training and the creation of 'Going Green' micro site. Regular 'green' features have been included in the resident's newsletter and Homelife. The Eco Champions have received coverage in local and national media to share the work we are doing with as many people as possible.
Achievements and experiences will be showcased in this section to encourage others to make the behavioural and lifestyle changes that our Eco Champions have made. If you are an Eco Champion and want to share your comments and stories, you can do so using Twitter or by contacting the Going Green Team.
Npower recently completed energy audits on our Eco Champions and Environmental Forum members. The results were really positive, showing that they are setting a good example to the rest of Sandwell's residents. The audit concluded that each participant demonstrated:
- Good housekeeping and
organisation/ forward planning
- Use of new and efficient appliances
- Good billing options; paperless billing and social tariffs
