How to pay


At your sign-up interview you would have received your rent payment card and details of the weekly rent due.

You must pay your rent on time to avoid falling into arrears.

Our preferred method of payment is Direct Debit. If you don’t have access to a bank account and would like to find out how to open one click on the following link: How to access a bank account

We offer a wide variety of alternative ways to paying your rent, details of which are shown below:

Direct Debit By direct debit – to request a form telephone 0121 569 5031.

Telephone By telephone – by credit or debit card on 0845 355 3500.

Online Make a secure online payment with Sandwell Council.

Telephone Banking Telephone Banking at your bank’s call centre. You must quote Sandwell Council’s account number 61190069 and sort code 08-90-01. You must also quote your rent account number.

Post Office At any Post Office – by cash, cheque or postal order at any UK Post Office.

Pay Point By Paypoint at any location which displays the Paypoint sign on the left. Cash payments only.

Neighbourhood Office At any council or neighbourhood office cash office – by cash, cheque, postal order, credit or debit card.

By post – send cheque or postal order. Make sure you quote your account number, name and address. Do not send cash in the post.


Please make all cheques payable to Sandwell Council.

If you fail to keep up with rent payments you will fall into arrears and you will be sent warning letters advising you of the debt and requesting payment. Should you not respond, or fail to keep to agreements to repay the debt in a reasonable time, legal proceedings will be started which could result in the loss of your home.

No rent payable weeks

Tenants receive four no rent payable weeks in every financial year. There is one in April, one in October and two at Christmas.
