Sheltered and Supported Housing

A Sheltered Housing Service is provided by Sandwell Homes offering extra care accommodation to low-level accommodation.
What is Extra Care Accommodation?
Extra care accommodation is provided for people who want to remain living independently for as long as possible, helping to retain their own individuality.
It gives you the security and privacy of your own home with a range of facilities on the premises, for example:
• Housing Support Officers, seven days a week, 365 days of the year
• Hot meals served in the communal lounge five days a week
• Care Staff, seven days a week, 365 days of the year (care that you will receive will be determined by an individual care assessment / care package)
• Social Activities within the scheme with organised day trips out
What other Sheltered Accommodation does Sandwell Homes provide?
Other sheltered accommodation that Sandwell Homes provides includes:
Sheltered schemes that have purpose built housing with a 24 hour community alarm service connected to a call centre 365 days of the year. Some schemes include communal facilities, for example communal lounge and laundry facilities.
Sandwell Homes also provides other low-level sheltered accommodation including flats and bungalows.

If you want a warden to visit you where you currently live you can click on the link ‘related documents’ below and complete the Request for Support Services leaflet, returning it to us at the address below.

Once received an officer will then contact you to arrange to visit you to explain the service in more detail.
Do I have to have a medical illness or disability to receive a warden?
To ensure we are providing a need led service we will have to complete a needs assessment with you.
The needs assessment will be completed with you and will determine what level of support you will need and the suggested recommended visits required to help you remain independent at home.
How much will the service cost?
There is a charge for this service however funding may be available following a financial assessment. For further information telephone 0121 525 8853.
